Sui Generis
A Learning Community Of Its Own Kind
Sui Generis means "of its own kind," and my goal is to create a learning community that lives up to this name. The courses offered are grounded in my passions--writing, mindfulness, meditation, and creativity. As my passions grow, so might our course offerings. Writing, mindfulness, and meditation take up the bulk of what you can study and practice here.

I have taught college for almost fifteen years, and while I have learned so much and have developed meaningful relationships with my students, the bounds of a sixteen week semester and the demands attached to doling out grades and degrees constrains my creative freedom as a teacher, which also limits my ability to prioritize my students' learning and needs over these other factors.

Here at Sui Gen, though, I am free to envision learning in new ways. I can truly meet my students where they are at
and not have to worry if that place doesn't match where they are supposed to be, in order to pass a class or get the A. I can teach a broad range of students--all are welcome.

I love being a writer and a meditator. I love applying mindfulness to each thing I do during the day. And, I love teaching. Breaking down processes into their parts and guiding students as they discover their own voices and styles as writers, meditators, and creative, mindful human beings brings me joy and fulfillment. Thich Nhat Hanh writes, "The way you support yourself can be an expression of your deepest self...Our vocation can nourish our understanding and compassion." This is what I am here to achieve, and I invite you to join me.
